STILLWATER – A big night from Karli Godwin and the Oklahoma State bullpen led the Cowgirl softball team to a 13-11 win over Murray State College in an exhibition game Tuesday night at Cowgirl Stadium.
Godwin went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and seven runs batted in to power the OSU offense. Her performance headlined a night when eight Cowgirls had at least one hit. Godwin, Jayelle Austin, Tia Warsop, Kendra Lewis and Kinleigh Russell all collected multiple hits.
Reese Poage homered in the contest, with Gabby Castillo and Kennedy Proctor hitting triples and Austin adding a double.
Makala Smith, Kennedy Allen and Peyton May combined to allow only one hit in six innings of relief work, with May striking out five of the eight batters she faced.
The Aggies held a 6-2 lead through two innings, but the Cowgirls stormed back with five runs in the third and another five in the fourth to take a 12-6 advantage. Murray State rallied late, with a run in the eighth and three in the ninth to head into the 10th inning down by only two. The Aggies had the tying run aboard with nobody out, but a line-drive into the glove of pitcher Kendra Lewis was turned into a double play that stemmed the tide. Still, Murray State got a run across and threatened to tie on a hard line drive to center, but Kaya Booker made the play to secure the OSU win.
The Cowgirls return to action this Thursday when they host a third and final intrasquad Orange vs. Black scrimmage at 6 p.m. in Cowgirl Stadium.
