STILLWATER – After winning his first career Big 12 individual title this past weekend, Oklahoma State cross country runner Denis Kipngetich was named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Men's National Athlete of the Week, the organization announced Monday.
This is the first time since 2022 a Cowboy has been named USTFCCCA Men's National Athlete of the Week during the cross country season, when Alex Maier won the award following his victory at the Cowboy Jamboree. Overall, a Cowboy has won the award four times, with Kipngetich and Maier joining Isai Rodriguez, who won the award twice in 2021.
Kipngetich won his first Big 12 cross country title over the best field in the NCAA with his time of 23:05.7 at the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course. Kipngetich defeated FloTrack's No. 1, 7, 8, 16, 26, 35, 36 and 39 ranked individual runners.
His time of 23:05.7 was the third-fastest mark in course history behind only national champions Brian Musau and Habtom Samuel and was the fifth consecutive Big 12 title won by a Cowboy, joining Alex Maier in 2022 and Musau from 2023-25.
