Cowgirl Equestrian Wins Sixth Consecutive Big 12 Championship
March 28, 2026 | Cowgirl Equestrian, General
With the victory, head coach Larry Sanchez and the Cowgirls captured their 12th Big 12 title, defeating TCU in each of the past six championship meets. Oklahoma State improved to 8-3 overall, including a 6-2 mark in conference play.
The Cowgirls dominated from start to finish, taking all four events for just the second time this season. The nine-point margin marked Oklahoma State's largest victory of the year and its largest over TCU since 2020. The Horned Frogs' five points on the day were the fewest they scored in a meet this season.
"We work all year on things to improve, and the hope of every coach is that (the team) peaks at the right time — which is in the postseason," Sanchez said. "And I think they're riding the best that they've ridden all year as group."
Blake Rowan, Gable Gering and Jalyn McElmurray were all named MOPs of the tournament at the championship ceremony.
The day started with Fences and Horsemanship.
OSU's Fences unit set the tone early, taking the event 4-1. It marked the third time this season the Cowgirls have won Fences by that margin. Three of the four points in the event came from Cowgirl freshman, as Rowan, Lauren Gee and Sophia Tabasso continued to give the Pokes tremendous contributions in their debut campaigns. Rowan stole the show with an 88.33 point performance, while Tabasso wasn't far behind with an 86.33-83.33 victory. It was the first time this season that Tabasso was in the starting lineup for Fences. The fourth point came from the unit's captain, Ellie DuPuis, who took her point 85.33-80.66.
The Horsemanship unit followed suit, taking the event 4-1 and improving its season record to 34-20. Jalyn McElmurray led the group with a 77, earning her sixth win of the season and second of the tournament. Alana Stanton, Bella D'Onofrio and June Roberson each added points as the Cowgirls claimed the first four rides of the event. D'Onofrio extended her winning streak to eight with victories in both of her Big 12 Championship rides, while Roberson secured her eighth win of the season and 35th of her career with a 75.67.
At the break, the Cowgirls held a commanding 8-2 lead with Flat and Reining to follow.
OSU held TCU to only one point for its third event in Flat, where the Cowgirls took a 3-1 advantage. Tabasso scored her second point of the day with a 79.67-72.33 win. Cadence Kueker and Mackenzie Carreras were the other Cowgirl point-getters, with Kueker delivering the championship-clinching 11th point. Gering tied her matchup with an event-high 81.33.
The meet concluded with Reining, in which OSU led 3-2. Emma Filiatreau earned her 30th career win in the contest, improving her season record to 9-1-1. Fellow All-Big member Ava Bush notched her ninth win of the season as well. The final point came from freshman Ayden Welman.
Oklahoma State travels to Ocala, Florida, to compete for the national championship, with the tournament beginning April 16.
