July 09, 2026 | Cowboy Golf
LIBERTY CORNER, N.J. – For the second year in a row, Oklahoma State's Ethan Fang and Preston Stout have earned spots on the 2026 U.S Walker Cup squad via their positions in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
Stout and Fang return for their second Walker Cup appearances, having played in the USA's 2025 victory at Cypress Point Club, in Pebble Beach, Calif. They will compete against Great Britain and Ireland in the 51st Walker Cup Match on Sept. 5-6 at Lahinch Golf Club in the Republic of Ireland.
"Preston and Ethan bring the kind of experience that only comes from having done this before, and that continuity is vital heading into Lahinch," U.S. Team Captain Nathan Smith said.
The top-ranked amateur in the world, Stout claimed the NCAA individual title in May, earning a spot in the U.S. Open field. The Richardson, Texas native's national title was one of five collegiate wins during Stout's junior campaign.
Last summer, he won the Northeast Amateur and was medalist at the U.S. Amateur before reaching the round of 16 during the match play portion of the event. Stout went 2-2 last year at the Walker Cup and has also represented his country at the 2025 Arnold Palmer Cup and the World Amateur Team Championship.
Fang currently stands at No. 4 in the World Amateur Ranking, having posted a pair of victories this past year for the Cowboys, winning the Carmel Cup and sharing medalist honors with Stout at the Maridoe Collegiate. The Plano, Texas was victorious last summer at The Amateur Championship, gaining entry into last summer's Open Championship and this year's Masters Tournament and U.S. Open.
Last summer, Fang was medalist at the Western Amateur before reaching the championship match at the event. In addition to going 1-2-1 at the Walker Cup, Fang represented the U.S. at the Arnold Palmer Cup and World Amateur Team Championship.
The USGA Team Selection Committee may name additional players to the Walker Cup Team prior to the U.S. Amateur Championship. The winner of the 2026 U.S. Amateur Championship, set to be played this August at Merion Golf Club, in Ardmore, Pa., and the recipient of the 2026 McCormack Medal, will also earn automatic exemptions, should they be American.
The Walker Cup Match is a 10-man amateur team competition between the USA and Great Britain and Ireland. Lahinch will be hosting its first Walker Cup Match.
