Cowgirl Soccer Wins Preseason Exhibition Match

STILLWATER – Led by a pair of goals from Sonora DeFini, Oklahoma State defeated Tulsa, 2-1, in an exhibition match Thursday night at Neal Patterson Stadium.
With its lone preseason match out of the way, the Cowgirls will open the regular season Wednesday night when they host Sam Houston.
Just 27 seconds into the match against TU, DeFini got the Cowgirls on the board as she drilled a shot to the top right corner off an assist from Emma Jensen.
Tulsa followed the early score in the 16th minute with its lone goal of the game by Aniya Facen.
The game did not remain tied for long as, just 43 seconds later, DeFini again found the back of the net, this time off an assist from Keaton Mitchell.
OSU outshot Tulsa 7-1 in the first half, but it was the Cowgirls' defense that came up strong after intermission.
In the 76th minute, Tulsa had its first shot on goal by forward Kaylyn Simmons, but Avery Bass jumped and made her first save of the match.
The Golden Hurricane had two more shots on goal, but both were saved by Bass to preserve the lead.
With just over a minute remaining, TU's Simmons again put a shot on frame, but Bass made another key save, diving and pushing the ball out of play to help secure the victory.
OSU finished with a 9-6 advantage in shots and owned a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
Bass split time with starter Logan Marks in goal and recorded all three of the Cowgirls' saves in the match.
