Oklahoma State Wrestling Falls To Minnesota, 16-15

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Oklahoma State got its rematch against Minnesota on Saturday night at the Bryce Jordan Center.
Unfortunately, the fourth-ranked Cowboys couldn't capitlize on upsets by Jeff Ragan and Daniel Cormier and fell 16-15 to the third-ranked Golden Gophers.
Minnesota, who ended OSU's 73-match unbeaten streak two week ago, used a 13-3 major decision from its top-ranked 285-pounder Brock Lesnar to slip past OSU 16-15.
The Cowboys fall to 7-2-1 on the season, after a 39-6 win in preliminary round over Rider and a 29-9 win in the quarterfinals against Pennsylvania earlier in the day. Minnesota improves to 12-0 on the season.
Jeff Ragan, ranked 11th in this week's Amateur Wrestling News poll, decisioned Minnesota's second-ranked Leroy Vega 8-8 in a tiebreaker. Ragan was able to ride Vega out during the 30-second tiebreaker.
At 184 pounds, OSU's Cormier upset second-ranked Brandon Eggum 3-1 in overtime. Cormier was making his third start after coming out of redshirt, and improved his record to 16-1.
Oklahoma State used decisions from Charles Walker and Jamill Kelly to build a 9-0 lead heading into the 149 pound matchup.
That matchup turned out to be the difference as OSU's third-ranked Reggie Wright was decisioned 4-3 by Minnesota's eight-ranked Jared Lawrence. Wright owned two wins over Lawrence this season entering the match.
Minnesota preceeded to win the next three matches as well and pull ahead of the Pokes 12-9.
Tied at 12-12, second-ranked 197-pounder Mark Mu?oz decisioned 14th-ranked Owen Elzen 12-6 and briefly gave OSU a 15-13 lead.
