STILLWATER, Okla. - Reggie Wright awakened a crowd of 2,694 at Gallagher -Iba arena with a heart-pounding 6-4 overtime victory over Northern Iowa's top-ranked Tony Davis to seal a 29-3 win on senior night.
A Wright takedown at the 1:07 mark of the second period gave him a 2-1 lead. Davis countered with a reverse with :46 seconds remaining in the period.
The third period began with the score tied at 3-3. Wright escaped with :40 seconds left in the match. Davis earned a riding time point to send the match into overtime.
OSU improves to 11-4-1 on the season heading into Sunday's showdown with the Oklahoma Sooners, Northern Iowa fell to 9-4-2.
The Cowboys jumped on top 4-0 behind a major decision from Ty Wilcox at 165 pounds. Wilcox used a five-point move midway through the second period to pull away.
OSU's Daniel Cormier was taken down early by UNI's 18th-ranked Kyle Hansen, but Cormier scored a late first period takdown that seemed to spur him on to an overpowering 12-6 decision.
Pat Popolizio replaced No. 2 Mark Mu-oz in the Cowboys' lineup at 197 pounds due to Mu-oz's tender knee. Popolizio proceeded to pick up where Mu-oz left off with a 7-2 win.
A rejuvenated Dave Anderton dominated UNI's 17th-ranked 285-pounder Paul Hynek and rode him for 3:09 in a, 6-0, win.
At 133 pounds, Charles Waker took NIU's Chad Boudreaux down twice in the final :16 seconds for an 11-3 major decision.
OSU also picked up decisions at 125 and 157 pounds.
The Cowboys venture to Norman on Sunday for a 3 p.m. meeting with the Sooners at the Lloyd Noble Center.

Postgame Quotes
Coach John Smith
"The important thing about tonight is the fact this place is really
sentimental to me and it is emotional for me to know this is the last time
we are going to wrestle in this facility. I don't want to sound like a wimp,
but this place has been very special to me since I have been here . I always
felt like the old wrestlers, the ghosts in here, really kept me going. You
know, I spent a lot of nights in here at midnight and one o'clock in the
morning running around this place and doing stairs and I always felt lifted.
I never felt alone in here. This is a place that really made me. To know
that it is not going to be the same, it is tough. I wish it was the same,
but the A.D. has a vision and he has a vision to take us into a new era of
athletics and you have to respect his vision. What would have haunted me for
the rest of my life is if we didn't come out and perform tonight knowing
this was the the last match. If you think about 1938, this place was built
for wrestling and (Ed) Gallagher was the coach then. I just hope the ghost
of Gallagher, tonight, was proud of Oklahoma State wrestling."
"I think Reggie (Wright) helped himself by executing what he needed to execute. He is growing up a lot, but a win is a win. He needs to feel tomorrow like (Tony) Davis does tomorrow morning. That is what I want him to feel like. I want him to think about what Davis is going to do when he goes home and match it and do more."
Sometimes time off is good. I have learned that. The one weakness I probably had as coach is not knowing when people need time off. You only know what you know and I I ever knew was to go. I think the time off has helped him refocus a little bit, get a grasp of what he needs to do and he wrestled a good solid match today. That is all you could ask for out of him. I am glad our seniors fulfilled what they wanted to tonight."
"All I know is we will show up. If we continue to wrestle and we continue to improve, this is a team that still has to improve, we still make some fundamental mistakes. In nationals it will get us in trouble. I think it has been a little bit of a problem in the past that we haven't looked for improvement at the end. I haven't spoken about it enough. We would kind of sit where we were as people may have gotten better toward the end."
Oklahoma State Players
Reggie Wright
"The strategy wasn't on my opponent. My strategy is to be in the best shape I can be so I can try to get some momentum for the national tournament. If you think about that week in and week out, who you have to wrestle, you don't wrestle well at the national tournament. We didn't train for this match, we are training through these matches."
On his upset of Tony Davis
"It is just momentum going into the national tournament. I have to beat him
again head-to-head. I felt confident in the third period. My legs started
shaking and I knew I had to go get it. You have to prepare for the seven or
eight guy like you would prepare for the number one guy. You have to train
as hard as you can and leave it all out there on the mat."
