STILLWATER, Okla. -- The 50th-ranked Oklahoma State men's team overcame a rain delay and an experience-laden Oklahoma squad to win 4-3 Wednesday at the DuBois Tennis Center.
The Cowboys rose to 9-4 overall and 2-1 in Big 12 play. The Sooners, who entered the match ranked No. 52, fell to 11-9 and 0-4.
OSU swept all three doubles matches to claim the contest's first team point. Leading the way for the Cowboys was the 53rd-ranked tandem of Matt Prentice and Eru Lyndon. The duo picked up an 8-6 decision at the No. 1 position to improve to 10-3 on the season.
"We were a little sluggish to begin with, but once we got into the match we started moving well and playing well together," Lyndon said.
After the rain delay, which lasted nearly two hours, the Cowboys and Sooners split the dual's six singles matches to close out the scoring.
The Pokes picked up straight-set wins from Prentice, Lyndon and sophomore Fran Krepelka, who ran his record to a team-best 12-1 on the year.
"I have been injured the past couple of weeks and I just got over the injury," Lyndon said. "It is good to be able to move freely without limping around the court. I played pretty well today."
The win extended OSU's winning streak to five over the Sooners and improved the Pokes' all-time record against OU to 27-21.
"They have a senior team and we have a very young team--we had some surprises. I really feel like Matt Prentice stepped it up today. Fran Krepelka played super, we put him up at No. 4 and he responded," Cowboy head coach James Wadley said.
The Cowboys will return to action this weekend when they host Texas Tech on Saturday and Nebraska on Sunday.
