Men's Tennis Defeats Sooners

Oklahoma State's men's tennis team defeated bedlam rival Oklahoma, 5-2, Wednesday evening at the OU Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla. The Cowboys improve to 10-3 on the season and 3-2 in conference play.
The Cowboys took an early 1-0 lead after winning the doubles point by claiming the No. 1 and 3 positions. Sophomore Mark Van Elden and senior Jiri Jezek defeated Tommy Garrison and Chris Mitchell at the No. 1 doubles spot. Sophomore Boris Kuharic and freshman Juan Felipe Diaz defeated Matt Ogle and Silviu Tanasoiu at the No. 3 doubles spot.
Freshman Jiri Spousta recorded the second team point for the Cowboys by defeating Garrison, 6-1, 6-3, at the No. 6 singles spot. Junior Yevgen Bondarchuk followed with a win at the No. 1 singles spot over Alexei Ivanov, winning in straight sets, 7-6, 6-3. Jezek clinched the match at the No. 3 singles spot by defeating Tanasoiu, 6-3, 6-3.
Freshman Tomas Bohunicky scored the fifth and final team point for the Cowboys at the No. 4 singles position. Bohunicky defeated Alex Nomicos, 3-6, 6-4, 6-0.
The Cowboys will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Lubbock, Texas to take on Texas Tech at 2 p.m.
