Cowboy Tennis Claims 4-3 Bedlam Victory

NORMAN, Okla. ÂOklahoma State's men's tennis team ran its winning streak to five matches on Saturday evening with a 4-3 victory over in-state rival Oklahoma at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman.
The 31st-ranked Cowboys improved to 12-5 overall and 2-2 in Big 12 play with the victory, while the Sooners fell to 11-8 and 1-4. OSU has now won 20 consecutive matches against OU and owns a 42-21 lead overall in the series.
The Sooners scratched first, earning the first team point of the night after sweeping all three doubles matches. Sergey Avdeyev and Ionut Beleleu scored an 8-7 upset of the Cowboys' 16th-ranked squad of Oleksandr Nedovyesov and Nathan Byrnes at the No. 1 spot. The loss dropped the defending Big 12 champions to 3-1 on the year in league play.
OSU's Igor Sobolta and Aleksey Bessonov dropped a tough 8-6 decision at the No. 3 slot, while the 45th-ranked tandem of Andrei Daescu and David Pultr ran their Big 12 record to 5-0 with an completed the sweep with an 8-2 win over Mikhail Trukshanin and Anton Bobytskyi.
Nedovyesov, the nation's top-ranked singles player, cruised to a 6-2, 6-2, win over Daescu to get OSU on the board. Sobolta added a straight-set triumph of his own, defeating Blake Boswell, 7-5, 6-3, to put the Cowboys in front by a 2-1 count.
Beleleu drew OU even with a 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 4 spot over Bobytskyi, before Aleksey Bessonov dropped Pultr with a 7-6, 6-3 win in the No. 3 match to put the Cowboys back in front.
At No. 2 singles, Avdeyev bounced back after dropping the first set against Byrnes to take the final two sets to once again square the match and with one match remaining.
The match's outcome hinged on the No. 5 singles match where Trukshanin rebounded after dropping the first set against Chanturia, 3-6, by taking the final two sets, 6-1, 7-5 to seal the victory for the Cowboys.
OSU closes out its regular season schedule next weekend on the road against Texas Tech on April 17 and against Baylor on April 19.
