Cowboy Tennis Edges Texas Tech, Advances to Semifinals

NORMAN, Okla. -- The Oklahoma State men's tennis team won four singles matches over Texas Tech to down the Red Raiders 4-3 in first round play at the Big 12 Championships in Norman, Okla.
The Cowboys advance to the championship semifinals where they will face top-seed and fifth-ranked Baylor. The Bears downed OSU 7-0 on Sunday.
OSU's No. 5 singles man Mikhail Trukshanin clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Michael Breler.
“Fortunately, today, we had four guys come through for us,” OSU coach James Wadley said. “We won at No. 1, won quickly at No. 4. (Anton) Bobytskyi won and he was the clinching match down at Texas Tech, but he won it easily this time. We won at No. 6 in straight sets. I was really proud of the way the guys hustled and fought. I thought our guys kept their composure really well and battled tough conditions against a very, very well-coached and talented Texas Tech team. We are really proud of the win today.”
Tech clinched the doubles point to start the match with Sinisa Markovic and Breler's 9-7 win over Trukshanin and Igor Sobolta.
OSU's 12th-ranked duo of Olekandr Nedovyesov and Nathan Byrnes won the only doubles match for the Cowboys with an 8-7 win over Raony Carvolho and Christian Rojmar.
The Cowboys got on the board quickly, however, after the doubles point when Anton Bobytskyi downed Rojmar 6-3, 6-0.
Tech struck again, extending its lead to 3-1 with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 singles.
Trailing by two, the Cowboys quickly countered when second-ranked Nedovyesov closed out Carvolho 6-3, 6-2 to bring OSU within one. It was the third time the Alushta,
Sobolta tied the match for the Cowboys with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Milos Kustudija.
