Cowboy Tennis Falls to Georgia Tech

ATHENS, Ga. – The No. 55 Oklahoma State men's tennis team suffered its second loss of the weekend Sunday as the Cowboys fell to No. 23 Georgia Tech, 4-2, in the consolation round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
In doubles play OSU's ninth-ranked tandem of Aleksey Bessonov and Rifat Biktyakov weren't able to finish their matchup with a highly-ranked opponent for the second time this weekend due to their match being suspended as the team doubles point was decided. The Cowboys suffered losses at Nos. 3 and 2 doubles, 8-2 and 8-5, respectively, to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead entering singles play.
The Cowboys fell behind 2-0 after dropping the No. 1 singles match, but followed with an upset win at No. 2, as Vlad Bondarenko defeated Georgia Tech's 48th-ranked Juan Spir in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.
The teams then traded matches at Nos. 4 and 3, with Biktyakov picking up a third-set tiebreaker win over GT's Eliot Potvin, to make the score 3-2 in favor of the Yellow Jackets with two matches remaining.
Eric West and Ilija Martinoski were both locked in close matches at Nos. 5 and 6, respectively, but the dual ended when West was forced to retire due to an injury.
The Cowboys, now 0-3, return to action Feb. 5, taking on UAB at Tulsa's Case Tennis Center.
