STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma State men's tennis looked poised to give No. 20 Texas Tech an upset scare on Friday afternoon at the DeBois Tennis Complex in Stillwater, but eventually fell, 5-1, to the Red Raiders.
The Cowboys (7-11, 0-3) were in control of three matches early on, but the Red Raiders (14-6, 3-0) were able to rally to secure a comfortable margin.
Freshman Chris Haworth picked up the Cowboys' lone win of the day after defeating Rafael Garcia, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 3 singles. Haworth improved his team-leading record to 13-4 this season.
No. 100 Vlad Bondarenko won his first set against No. 98 Raony Carvalho, 6-4, and looked in control of his second set with a 5-2 lead, but Carvalho rallied to take the set 7-5 and followed that up with a 6-1 win in the decisive third set.
Eric West also won the first set of his match against Vitor Manzini, 6-1, and had an opportunity to win the second set; however, Manzini took the second set, 7-6, after winning the tiebreaker, 7-3. Manzini won the decisive third set, 6-0.
Doubles matches were not played because of inclement weather.
The Cowboys will return to action with a home match against No. 28 Baylor set for 2 p.m. on Sunday.
