Late Surge Can't Push Cowgirls Past No. 1 Georgia

BISHOP, Georgia - After a late rally in Reining, Cowgirl Equestrian fell short to No.1 Georgia, 14-6 on Friday at the UGA Equestrian Complex.
"The girls rode extremely well today in the reining, winning that event, 3-2," Head Coach Larry Sanchez said.
Ebba Lange, defeated 2015 All-American Lauren Gamon 70.5-69, Julia Purus defeated Charley Thiel 70.5-70 and Erin Willoughby defeated Claudia Spreng 69-67.5 in the event for the Cowgirls.
Lange and Willoughby remain unbeaten on the season, improving their records to 3-0.
Carly Barrick remained perfect in Equitation over Fences for the Cowgirls, moving her season record to 3-0 in the event by defeating Georgia's Alex Maracic 83-82.
Katie Jones also posted an 83 for Oklahoma State in Equitation over Fences, but fell in a tough-luck loss to Meg O'Mara, who posted a meet-high score of 86.
All-American Amy White defeated the Bulldogs' Liza Finsness 72-40, but the Bulldogs would claim two more points to win the event 3-2.
Oklahoma State couldn't take advantage of Miranda Reed's score of 74 in Horsemanship, which ran simultaneously with Equitation Over Fences, as Georgia's Rachel Kolb recorded a 75.
Georgia would go on to win Horsemanship 5-0.
"In the horsemanship, we made a few very fixable mistakes and will have those corrected by tomorrow," Sanchez said.
All-American Jorden Davis led the Cowgirls in Equitation on the Flat, posting a 63-62 victory over Maracic. The Bulldogs edged out four victories in the event, going on to win Equitation on the Flat 4-1.
"We also had strong rides in the Hunterseat competitions," Sanchez said. "We just lost a few very close head-to-head matchups."
The Cowgirls return to action tomorrow, as they face off with No. 2 Auburn.
