Cowgirls Walked-Off By Texas Tech
March 30, 2018 | Cowgirl Softball
LUBBOCK, Texas – The No. 23 Oklahoma State softball team suffered a walk-off loss to Texas Tech, 4-3, in eight innings on Friday at Rocky Johnson Field.
The loss marked the third time this season that OSU (24-10; 3-2 Big 12) has been bested in extra innings.
Oklahoma State's offense started off strong early, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the first inning. TTU's Kassidy Scott was forced to throw 49 pitches in total during the game's opening inning as the Cowgirls jumped out to an early lead.
The balls stopped dropping for OSU after that though, as the Cowgirls plated just one run - a fifth-inning tally - over the remainder of the contest.
Logan Simunek handled the load for OSU in the circle. She allowed just one run over her first six innings of work, but a pair of Red Raider home runs in the seventh squared the game at 3-3 and forced extra innings.
After Oklahoma State was unable to plate a run in the eighth, Texas Tech notched a pair of one-out singles from the top of its order to threaten in its own half of the inning.
Kiana Workman - TTU's clean-up hitter - delivered the walk-off blow with a liner that cleared Jessi Haffner's outstretched glove at first base, bringing home the winning run from third base.
OSU will look to bounce back and win the series' rubber game tomorrow at 12 p.m.
