March 10, 2019 | Cowgirl Tennis
WICHITA, Kan. — Oklahoma State's women's tennis team ran its winning streak to five in a row with a road victory on Sunday, defeating Wichita State, 4-0, at Wichita Country Club.
The day started with the eighth-ranked Cowgirls claiming the doubles point. The sophomore tandem of Bunyawi Thamchaiwat and Tamara Arnold struck first, winning their match, 6-0. Shortly thereafter, the senior duo of Katarina Stresnakova and Marina Guinart clinched the doubles point for OSU with a 6-2 victory.
"I thought the girls came out and got off to a great start in doubles," OSU head coach Chris Young said. "I thought the girls played incredibly well and had great energy."
Entering singles play, Wichita State forfeited on court 6, putting the Cowgirls up, 2-0.
Junior Lisa Marie Rioux was the first to score in singles action, coming out on top against Lingwi Kong, 6-1, 6-0. Guinart bested Ting-Ya Hsu, 6-1, 6-3, to secure the fourth and final point for OSU.
"In singles, in a match like this, you want to take that momentum and ride it all the way," Young said. "Wichita State was a little banged up and we took advantage of that, if we got off to a good start. All across the board, in the four singles matches, they did that. I was really proud of Lisa and the way she continues to play and Marina too."
The Cowgirls will be back in action on Friday when they take on Kansas in Stillwater at 5 p.m.
