Cowboy Tennis Fights, But Falls to Texas A&M

Stillwater, Okla. - The 25th-ranked Oklahoma State men's tennis team battled to the end, but ultimately fell short against the  No. 12 Texas A&M Aggies on Tuesday afternoon in Stillwater, 4-3.
It was consistent back-and-forth play in doubles action. The Cowboy duo of Matej Vocel and Henrik Korsgaard were the first to finish, taking an impressive 6-2 victory over No. 48 Juan Carlos Aguilar and Bjorn Thomson on court one. Texas A&M in return took the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. Court three was next to finish with Mathieu Scaglia and Maxim Tybar falling to Noah Schachter and Pranav Kumar, 6-3. While court three was a down-to-the-wire battle with Emile Hudd and Dominik Kellovsky falling to Valentin Vacherot and Pierce Rollins, 7-5.
Dropping the doubles points didn't stop the Cowboys. In singles play, the orange and black rallied, winning the first set on all six courts. Emile Hudd was the first to claim victory on court three over Texas A&M's Noah Schachter, 6-3, 6-3, to put the Pokes on the board and even the score at 1-1.
Mathieu Scaglia kept the momentum rolling by taking court five and cruising to a 7-5, 6-2 victory on Raphael Perot. On court four, Etienne Donnet never faltered and followed in Scaglia's footsteps, winning in straight sets against Bjorn Thomson, 6-4, 6-4, to put the Cowboys out front by a 3-1 count.
The Aggies struck back with a win on court four. Dominik Kellovsky lost to Texas A&M's Pierce Rollins, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4. After a difficult three sets, Henrik Korsgaard was clipped by Juan Carlos Aguilar in three sets, 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, as well.
After the Aggies tied it up at 3-3, it all came down to court one.
No. 49 Matej Vocel and No. 4 Valentin Vacherot on court one never wavered, going into a tie-break in the first and second sets. Vocel came out on top in the first over Vacherot 7-6, but lost in the second 6-7. Vacherot claims overall victory for the Aggies and the match in the third set, 6-1.Â
OSU is now 6-4 overall and 5-2 at home.
The Cowboys are back at home on March 21 when they host Ole Miss at 12 p.m.
