Cowboy Tennis Opens Big 12 Play Against Baylor

Stillwater, Okla. - The 18th-ranked Oklahoma State men's tennis team will open conference play against the fifth-ranked Baylor Bears on Thursday at the Greenwood Tennis Center.Â
The Cowboys enter Big 12 action with a 7-6 mark overall on the year and a 5-4 record at home. Baylor has a 21-3 mark on the year and is 6-1 on the road. The squad also boasts two ranked players in singles action, No. 9 Matias Soto and No. 62 Adrian Botan.Â
The Cowboys came up just short in their last outing against No. 13 UCF on March 28.
Senior Matej Vocel continued to be a capable performer for the Cowboys Vocel squared off against UCF's No. 4 Gabriel Decamps and and took the match to three sets. Vocel clinched the first set 7-6(4) and fought till the end before eventually falling, 6-3, 6-4. Junior Emile Hudd and senior Mathieu Scaglia both tallied three-set matches on the day and were the last three standing in singles play. Hudd's also forced a three-set contest of 4-6, 7-6(6), 6-5 but went unfinished when play was called.
On court four, Scaglia was the fifth player to finish against Kento Yamada, grinding out a 6-2, 6-7(5-7), 6-3 dogfight match. Scaglia also combined with Etienne Donnet to clinch a three-set victory to grab the doubles point 7-6(9) against Alan Rubio and Kento Yamada.
In the recent ITA rankings, Vocel climbed to No. 38 in singles play alongside junior Emile Hudd, who is also slated at No. 107.
The last time the Pokes and Bears squared off was in 2019 where Baylor claimed a 4-1 win. Overall, the Bears hold a 29-9 record over OSU.
