Cowboy Tennis Falls to Arkansas

Fayetteville, Ark. - Oklahoma State's men's tennis team came out on the short end of a 5-2 contest against the Arkansas Razorbacks today in Fayetteville at the Billingsley Tennis Center.

With the loss, the Cowboys fell to 2-1 on the year, while the Razorbacks improved to 1-0.

The Razorbacks got off to a fast start in doubles action. Court two was first to finish where Luke Hammond and Sebastian Nothhaft faced off against No. 36 Adrien Burdet and Melvin Manuel with the Arkansas duo coming out on top, 6-3. Tyler Zink and Alex Garcia took the court against Alex Reco and Nico Rousset, which went the way of Arkansas, 6-3.

Although the match was decided, court three played out. The duo of Leighton Allen and Fran Pini fell to Oscar Pinto Sansano and Riccardo Trione, 6-4.

Sophomore Leighton Allen and freshman Fran Pini highlighted the day in singles play for the Pokes. In a three-set thriller, Pini claimed court six over Avery Zavala, 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, to get OSU on the board. Next to finish was Allen on court four. After dropping the first set, he regained momentum to top Oscar Pinto Sansano, 6-7(2), 6-4, 1(10-3).

Arkansas started early in singles, where court five was first to finish. Luke Hammond fell to Arkansas' Adrien Burdet, 6-1, 6-2. On court one, junior Tyler Zink battled No. 102 Alex Reco, where a close contest went the way of the Razorback, 6-4, 6-2. Sebastian Nothhaft fought hard, but fell to No. 25 Aleska Bucan, 7-5, 6-1. An Arkansas rally claimed court two, when Alex Garcia dropped an evenly-match battle went to Nico Rousset 4-6, 7-6(4), 1(10-3)

The Cowboys will look to get back in the win column on Friday when they travel to Oxford to play Ole Miss.
