Cowgirl Tennis Handles Baylor In Conference Opener

WACO, Texas – Oklahoma State's women's tennis team earned its first conference win of the season by defeating No. 40 Baylor, 4-3, on Friday evening at the Hurd Tennis Center.
Oklahoma State improves to 8-4 overall and 1-0 in Big 12 play on the year. Additionally, the Cowgirls have won seven of the last eight meetings against the Bears.
The Cowgirls jumped out to an early advantage when they took the doubles point behind outstanding performances on courts one and three. No. 31 Ayumi Miyamoto and Raquel Gonzalez picked up a 6-3 victory over Baylor's Isabella Harvison and Anita Sahdiieva to remain undefeated this season.
Sofia Rojas and Alana Wolfberg fell to Alina Shcherbinina and Paula Barabano, 6-3. The doubles point came down to court three where Martina Zerulo and Lucia Peyre topped Liubov Kosteriko and Brooke Thompson, 6-4.
Singles action began with No. 109 Alana Wolfberg battling to a 7-6 (3), 6-3 victory over Kosteriko on court three. Kristina Novak dropped her match in a tight matchup to No. 92 Harvison 6-3, 2-6, 6-2.
Rojas extended OSU's lead on court five, where she bested Baranano, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5. Lucia Peyre dropped her match to Alina Shcherbinina, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Miyamoto picked up the match-clinching point by completing a comeback against Baylor's Sahdiieva, 2-6, 6-2, 7-5.
The remaining match played out where Gonzalez dropped a hard-fought match against Daniella Dimitrov, 7-6 (7), 1-6, 6-4.
Next up, OSU will travel to Austin to take on the 12th-ranked Texas Longhorns on March 12 at 12 p.m.
