Cowgirl Tennis Wins Fifth Straight
March 03, 2023 | Cowgirl Tennis
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Oklahoma State's women's tennis team picked up its fifth straight victory on Friday, taking down the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos at Arnhold Tennis Center, 5-2.
The win pushes Oklahoma State to 7-3 on the season.
The Cowgirls earned the early advantage due to the Gauchos only having five players available, so OSU automatically won on court three in doubles and on court six in singles.
OSU secured the doubles point after Ayumi Miyamoto and Raquel Gonzalez moved to 5-0 on the season with a 6-1 win over UC Santa Barbara's Camille Kiss and Marta Gonzalez Ballbe.
In singles, Miyamoto started fast and never looked back on the way to a 6-1, 6-0, rout of UC Santa Barbara's Gonzalez. Lucia Peyre sealed the deal, delivering the match clinching point, defeating UC Santa Barbara's Kira Reuter in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.
Although the Cowgirls had already secured the victory, the rest of the singles played out. Sofia Rojas followed suit taking down Valentina Khrebtova, 6-3, 6-1.
Alana Wolfberg fell to Amelia Honer, 7-6, 6-2, and Martina Zerulo lost to Kiss in a close matchup, 5-7, 6-4, 10-5.
OSU is back in action March 5 to take on the ninth-ranked Pepperdine Waves in Malibu, California.
