STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State's 17th-ranked women's tennis squad wrapped up the final home match of the 2023 regular season with a 7-0 sweep over West Virginia at the Greenwood Tennis Center on Sunday.Â
With the win, OSU improved to 12-5 overall and 5-1 in Big 12 play, as it continues to push for the top spot in the conference. West Virginia drops to 11-8 and 1-5 in conference play. OSU's undefeated record against the Mountaineers improves to nine matches in a series dating to 2013.Â
On senior day, Alana Wolfberg and Martina Zerulo stood out for the Cowgirls in their final match at the Greenwood Tennis Center, both winning their singles competition and paired up in doubles to help secure OSU's first points.Â
In their first dual as a pair, Wolfberg and Zerulo dominated Tatiana Lipatova and Maja Dodik, 6-1, and were the first duo to finish. OSU's 21st-ranked doubles duo of Ayumi Miyamoto and Raquel Gonzalez reentered the win column with their 6-2 victory over Momoko Nagato and Michaela Kucharova. Miyamoto and Gonzalez reached their 10th victory as a pair this season.Â
The Cowgirls controlled singles competition in every aspect, with each Cowgirl securing their respective first sets, and four winning in straight sets. After entering the lineup last second, Gonzalez made quick work of Lipatova, winning 6-2, 6-2.Â
Wolfberg and Miyamoto quickly clinched the match in OSU's favor shortly after, winning their singles duals within one minute of each other. Wolfberg claimed her second singles victory of the weekend against Camilla Bossi, 6-2, 6-2. Her victory is also the first of her career on court one. Meanwhile, Miyamoto earned her career high 13th singles victory of the season against Maja Dodik, 6-3, 6-1, as her singles' winning streak hits double digits at 10.Â
Freshman Lucia Peyre collected her first career victory as No. 2 on OSU's lineup, defeating Kucharova 6-0, 6-4. Peyre now has wins in the second, third and fourth position.Â
Sofia Rojas continued her strong performance in singles, defeating Nagato in a tight 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 victory. Rojas is now the winner of six in a row, all against Big 12 opponents, and nine of her past 10 completed duals.Â
Zerulo notched her first singles victory of the season against Ting-Pei Chan, 5-3, 6-7 (2-7), 1-0 (10-3) in tie-breaking fashion. In the third set, Zerulo lit up and took the first five points, and ultimately won the third set comfortably.Â
As the Big 12 standings grow tighter, OSU will now look to distance themselves from Oklahoma next week, as the Cowgirls face the Sooners in Norman April 7.Â
