Carl Roothman, Cowboy Tennis Advance In Big 12 Championships

LAWRENCE, Kans. – Carl Roothman clinched the match in the third set propelling the Oklahoma State men's tennis team to a 4-3 win over third-seeded Texas Tech on Saturday in Lawrence, Kansas.
With the win, the 47th-ranked Cowboys improved to 13-12 and advanced to the second round of the Big 12 Tournament.Â
Starting with doubles, Tyler Zink and Chase Ferguson dropped Dimitrios Azoidis and Reed Collier, 6-3, on court one. The Red Raiders responded with a 6-4 win on court two.Â
The doubles point was decided when TTU's Isaac Arevalo and Olle Wallin defeated Alessio Basile and Carl Roothman, 6-3.Â
Moving into singles, Alex Garcia was the first to get off the court, winning a 5-4 deuce point to beat Texas Tech's Isaac Arevalo, 6-4, 6-4, on court three. The Red Raiders responded, winning in straight sets on court one.Â
Up 6-5 in the second set with a first-set advantage, Becroft snared the deuce point, claiming a 6-2, 7-5 victory on court two. TTU's Collier dropped Ferguson, giving the Red Raiders a 3-2 lead.Â
Oklahoma State's Basile beat Lorenzo Esquici in the third set, tying the match at three all.
With the match on the line, Freshman Carl Roothman came in clutch, winning (6-4) in the third set, shooting the Cowboys into the second round of the Big 12 tournament.
The Cowboys advance and will face the second-seeded TCU on Saturday at 9 a.m. (CST) in Lawrence, Kansas.Â
