Cowgirl Tennis Set For Denver In NCAA Tournament First Round

After earning the event's No. 17 overall seed, Oklahoma State's women's tennis team (15-7 overall; 7-2 Big 12) is set for a matchup against No. 48 Denver (18-4 overall; 6-0 Summit League) in the first round of the NCAA Championships. The Cowgirls and Pioneers square off at 1 p.m. (CST) on May 5 in Palo Alto, California. If the Cowgirls win, they will advance to the second round to play the winner of Stanford and Weber State. The second round is slated for a 3 p.m. (CST) contest on May 6.

OSU is led by Ayumi Miyamoto who is undefeated in singles throughout conference play and holds a thirteen-match winning streak in singles. At the beginning of the season in non-conference play, OSU went 7-4 to kick off the season highlighted by wins against No. 41 South Carolina and Oregon. In its conference-opening road trip, the Cowgirls beat the No. 40 Baylor Bears, 4-3. OSU moved to 9-4 on the season and added a top-15 win to its resume, taking down the 12th-ranked Texas Longhorns, 4-3, to finish off the weekend. The Cowgirls then returned home and defeated No. 61 TCU and No. 33 Texas Tech. OSU dropped a hard-fought match to tenth-ranked Iowa State but bounced back and completed its sixth sweep on the year against West Virginia, 7-0, on senior day. In the Phillips 66 Bedlam matchup, OSU fell to No. 18 Oklahoma in Norman. The Cowgirls rebounded and swept No. 22 Kansas, 4-0, before beating Kansas State in Manhattan, 4-1, to finish off the regular season.

The Cowgirls have three student-athletes ranked in the ITA rankings, with senior Alana Wolfberg landing at No. 118 in singles.
