Cowgirl Equestrian Falls to No. 3 TCU in Season Opener

FORT WORTH, Texas — Oklahoma State's fifth-ranked equestrian team fell to third-ranked TCU, 11-9, in its season opener at Bear Creek Farms on Friday.
OSU's Riley Hogan earned the 46th and 47th wins in her career, tying her for seventh all time in combined career wins in Cowgirl history. She also earned the 11th MOP of her career in the Flat event.
With the loss, OSU drops to 0-1 overall and in the Big 12, while TCU improved to 3-1 and 1-0 against conference opponents.
OSU head coach Larry Sanchez believes there is a lot to take away from this meet despite the loss.
"I think we are riding very well," Sanchez said. "We did have some mistakes today that are very fixable, and we need to take that back home with us and practice these next couple weeks to get ready for UC Davis and UT Martin."
The meet started with Fences and Reining.Â
The Fences team lost 4-1 to the Horned Frogs. Hogan scored the lone point for the Cowgirls. As she earned her 46th career win. It also marked her 32nd career Fences win, moving her up to fifth all time in Fences wins in Cowgirl history.
OSU's Gable Gering earned a score of 80 in her first career ride but lost to Lilly Goldstein. Jordan Scelsa, Ella Bostwick and Ashleigh Scully earned points for TCU over Mackenzie Carrerras, Bella Holway and Ellie Dupuis.
In the Reining arena, the Horned Frogs took a 3-2 advantage over the Cowgirls. Quincee Clark claimed a 71.25-69.75 win over Kylie Baker for the Cowgirls' first point of the event. Her 71.25 point performance was the highest of any rider in the event and helped her earn the seventh MOP of her career.Â
TCU's Jessica McAllister, Lannie-Jo Lisac and Shea Graham scored the three points over Emma Filiatreau, Tristan Bagby and Abby Budd, respectively.Â
Ava Bush scored the final point of the event to cut OSU's deficit to four points heading into the half.
After the intermission, the competition continued with Reining and Flat.
The Flat squad had a solid performance for the Cowgirls, highlighted by the first three points in the event. Hogan started off with an 89.5, followed by Bella Holway earning an 86 and Caroline Mirts winning with an 81.
Bostwick and Scully earned points for TCU over Gering and Hannah Dodd.Â
Horsemanship saw a good performance from OSU as the Cowgirls won the event, 3-2. Bella D'Onofrio beat TCU's Payton Boutelle with a score of 70.25. June Roberson earned the highest score of the event with a 72.5, and Claire McDowall won with a 68.75.Â
Claire McDowall collected the eighth MOP of her career for her ride in the Horsemanship event.Â
The Cowgirls return to action on a two-meet road trip to Tennessee where they face UC Davis on Oct. 18 and UT Martin on Oct. 19. Times for those meetings have yet to be announced.Â
