MORGANTOWN, W.Va.ย โ Oklahoma State plated nine runs in the 11th inning to secure a series win over West Virginia with a 10-1 victory Saturday at Kendrick Family Ballpark.
ย
With the win, the Cowboys improved to 18-9 and 5-3 in Big 12 play, while WVU fell to 15-12 and 4-4 in the league.
ย
Tommy Molsky picked up the win in relief to improve to 4-0, while Colin Brueggemann had a big day at the plate with three hits, including a home run, and three RBIs.
ย
In the pivotal 11th inning, OSU sent 14 batters to the plate and scored nine runs on five hits.
ย
Tyler Wulfert got things started with a leadoff homer to left field, and Brueggemann followed with his team-leading seventh round tripper of the season to make the score 3-1.
ย
The Cowboys were far from done. Jaxson Crull brought home the next run with a double and later scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead to four. The next run also came via a wild pitch before Brueggemann drove in two more runs with a single to extend the advantage to 8-1. The final runs came on a two-RBI single from Crull.
ย
WVU took an early lead in the contest on a solo home run by Reed Chumley with two outs in the first inning.
ย
Following the homer, starters Brian Holiday and Derek Clark became locked in a pitcher's duel, with each posting shutout innings until the Cowboys finally got on the scoreboard in the eighth.
ย
Back-to-back singles by Ehrhard and Schubart led off that inning to put Cowboys on the corners before Ehrhard came home to score when Carson Benge grounded into a double play to make the score 1-1.
ย
Holiday finished his outing with five strikeouts over eight innings while allowing only three hits before yielding to Molsky to begin the ninth.
ย
The teams conclude the series Sunday, with first pitch scheduled for 12 p.m. (CDT).
