Cowboy Tennis falls to Oklahoma in Regular Season Finale

NORMAN, Okla. – The 33rd-ranked Oklahoma State men's tennis dropped its regular season finale to No. 9 Oklahoma, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Headington Family Tennis Center.
OSU moved to 16-8 on the season and 3-4 in the Big 12 Conference. OU improved to 19-3, with a 6-1 record in conference play.
OSU won its doubles point in convincing fashion. Starting on court two, OSU's duo of Francisco Pini and Alex Garcia kept their hot streak going as they took down Luis Alvarez and Kholo Montsi, 6-3. The pairing improved to 4-0 with the win.
The Cowboys clinched the doubles point with a tight win from Tyler Zink and Isaac Becroft. The No. 19 pairing defeated OU's No. 52 Baptiste Anselmo and Alex Martinez after being down 40-0 and coming back in two straight games to take the doubles point, 6-4. They are 3-0, with all three wins against ranked pairings.
With the doubles point clinched, OSU's Leighton Allen and Alessio Basile went unfinished against Hank Trondson and Asahi Harazaki needing one point to take the match in a 5-4 affair.
In singles, Oklahoma's Justin Schlageter evened up the dual at one apiece with a win against Basile, 6-3, 6-1. The Sooners took the lead with a win from Mark Mandlik on court six against Pini, 6-3, 6-3. To extend their lead, Alvarez, on court four, defeated OSU freshman Erik Schiessl, 6-4, 6-1.
Oklahoma clinched the match with a win on court three. No. 71 Garcia fell to OU's Jordan Hasson, 6-4, 7-5. With the dual settled, No. 20 Zink lost to No. 10 Martinez in three sets, 0-6, 6-3, 3-6.
No. 86 Becroft forced a third set against No. 59 Montsi, but the match went unfinished at 6-3, 1-6, 2-2.
The Cowboys head back to Stillwater as they host the Big 12 tournament, April 19-21, at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
