MANHATTAN, Kan.ย โ Oklahoma State dropped its second game of the series against Kansas State Saturday as the 15th-ranked Cowboys took a 7-2 loss at Tointon Family Stadium.
ย
With the loss, OSU fell to 25-14 and 10-7 in Big 12 play, while the Wildcats improved to 24-14 and 9-8 in the conference.
ย
The setback marks OSU's first series loss to Kansas State since 2010.
ย
Ian Daugherty homered and had two hits for the Cowboys, while Carson Benge was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
ย
Brian Holiday took the loss on the mound to fall to 3-3. The right-hander worked six innings and allowed five runs on eight hits while striking out seven.
ย
K-State took the game's initial lead in the second on a leadoff home run to right field by Raphael Pelletier, his eighth homer of the season.
ย
Pelletier did it again in the fourth, leading off that inning with another solo shot to put the Wildcats up 2-0.
ย
After being shut out and held to just one hit over the first 5 1/3 innings by K-State right-hander Jackson Wentworth, the Cowboys cut their deficit in half on Daugherty's fifth homer of the season, a pinch-hit blast over the left field wall.
ย
K-State got the run back and then some in the bottom of the inning. This time it was a double by Pelletier that got things starter, and he would score a single by David Bishop to put the home team up 3-1. The Wildcats added to their lead on a two-run homer by Jaden Parsons to go up by four.
ย
The Wildcats added two more runs in the seventh, with OSU's final run coming on a double by Benge in the eighth.
ย
Sunday's series finale is scheduled for a 3 p.m. first pitch.
