Cowboy Tennis Wraps Up 2024 Campaign at NCAA Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 34 Oklahoma State men's tennis team closed out its season, falling to No. 1 Ohio State, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.
The loss ended the Cowboys' NCAA Championship run in the second round. The Pokes finished with a record of 18-10, the most wins since 2019, and the second consecutive round of 32 appearance in the NCAA Championships.Â
Doubles began on court three where Oklahoma State's Leighton Allen and Alessio Basile fell to Canon Kingsley and Jack Anthrop, 6-0. The Buckeyes took the doubles point on court two when No. 49 Andrew Lutschaunig and Justin Boulais defeated Alex Garcia and Francisco Pini, 6-1. With the point claimed, No. 10 Tyler Zink and Isaac Becroft went unfinished against Ohio State's No. 3 JJ Tracy and Robert Cash.
Heading into singles, on court six, Pini fell to Cash, 6-3, 6-0. The Buckeyes extended their lead to three as No. 19 Tracy defeated Erik Schiessl, 6-1, 6-0.Â
The match moved indoors after a 40-minute rain delay. Oklahoma State's No. 109 Garcia defeated No. 30 Anthrop in a back-and-forth match, 6-2, 1-6, 6-1. It was Garcia's highest-ranked win of the season.
Ohio State clinched the match as Alexander Bernard defeated Basile, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2. Basile played tough in the second set after being down 2-5. He rattled off five straight games to force a third set. With the match finalized, Zink and Becroft went unfinished, with Zink having forced a third set.
Zink and Becroft will continue their seasons with the NCAA singles and doubles Championships at the Greenwood Tennis Center starting on May 20.
