Cowboy Baseball Falls To Texas State
February 18, 2025 | Cowboy Baseball
ARLINGTON, Texasย โ Oklahoma State's late comeback fell short Tuesday night in the Amegy Bank College Baseball Series as the 17th-ranked Cowboys dropped a 4-2 contest to Texas State at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
ย
With the loss, the Pokes fell to 1-3, while TXST is now 4-0 on the season.
ย
OSU brought the tying run to the plate three times in the ninth inning, then had the winning run at the plate with two outs but could not convert.
ย
Offensively, the Cowboys outhit the Bobcats, 8-5, with Aidan Meola's 3-for-5 night leading the way and Colin Brueggemann adding a pair of hits.
ย
Drew Blake took the loss on the mound as the southpaw worked 2 1/3 innings in relief of starter Sean Youngerman and allowed three runs on two hits while striking out five.
ย
Texas State took an early lead on a two-out RBI single off the bat of Ethan Farris in the first inning before the game went into a pitcher's duel with that 1-0 advantage holding up over the next five frames.
ย
Youngerman was excellent in his first start for the Cowboys as the right-hander struck out five over five innings and allowed just the one run on two hits while not giving up any free passes.
ย
The Cowboys would finally get on the scoreboard in the sixth. After Ian Daughtery doubled with one out, pinch hitter Garrett Shull brought him home with a single up the middle, marking the first RBI of Shull's career and tying the game at 1-1.
ย
In the pivotal eighth inning, the Bobcats loaded the bases with one out. Stormy Rhodes came out of the bullpen, but a wild pitch brought home the go-ahead run before Rhodes got a strikeout. The Cowboys then called on Ethan Lund, but another wild pitch and a steal of home on a catcher's interference call made the score 4-1.
ย
In the ninth, a walk to Avery Ortiz and a Meola double put two Cowboys in scoring position with no outs. Nolan Schubart then struck out and an RBI groundout by Jayson Jones made the score 4-2. An infield single by Brueggemann put runners on the corners, but Daugherty struck out to end the game.
ย
OSU's 2025 home opener is scheduled for Friday afternoon at O'Brate Stadium in the first in a three-game weekend series with UT Arlington.
