PUERTO VALLARTA, Mexico – With the help of a Katie Kutz shutout and multiple standout batting performances, the No. 4 Oklahoma State Softball team run ruled Northern Colorado 8-0 On Friday at Nancy Almaraz Field.
With the win, the Cowgirls complete their Friday doubleheader with a 2-1 overall record this season, and the Bears move to 0-3.
Megan Delgadillo put Oklahoma State on the scoresheet in the first inning with a third base steal that turned into a run due to an error. The Cowgirls then got out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning thanks to a Karli Godwin single that scored Delgadillo and Megan Bloodworth.
Delgadillo struck again in the 3rd inning with an RBI Single and Tallen Edwards blasted a single to score Sophie Page in the bottom of the fifth. Rachel Hathoot then had a sacrifice fly, allowing Tara Vandewater to run home and make the score 6-0.
With the game in run-rule territory and bases loaded in the sixth inning, Delgadillo scored her third run after Karli Godwin walked. A Claire Timm RBI single ended the game for the Cowgirls.
Katie Kutz earned the win for Oklahoma State in her first game of the season, and Anna Wilming took the loss for Northern Colorado, which makes her 0-2 on the year.
The offensive standouts for the Cowgirls included Delgadillo (4-4 with an RBI), Karli Godwin (2-2 with 3 RBIs), Tallen Edwards (2-3 with an RBI) and Claire Timm (1-2 with an RBI.)
The Cowgirls round out the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge with a rematch against No. 9 Florida State tomorrow at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed live on FloSoftball and can be heard on the Varsity Network app.
