Cowboys to play Sunday at SMU in NIT's Round of 16

Oklahoma State's National Invitation Tournament journey will continue Sunday in Dallas with a second-round matchup against the SMU Mustangs on ESPN2. Tipoff is slated for 2 p.m. CT.

The fourth-seeded Cowboys (16-17) defeated Wichita State, 89-79, on Tuesday night to advance in the bracket. No. 1 seed SMU (24-10, 13-7 ACC) joined them in the Round of 16 following Wednesday's 73-63 win over Northern Iowa.

The OSU-SMU winner will battle either No. 2 North Texas or No. 3 Arkansas State in next week's quarterfinals.

The Cowboys haven't officially faced SMU since the 2011-12 season but played a closed-door scrimmage at Moody Coliseum prior to the 2023-24 season. Last October, they hosted the Mustangs for a preseason charity scrimmage, winning 89-78 behind 24 points from Bryce Thompson.

OSU leads the all-time series 20-6 with 10 straight victories. The Cowboys are 8-3 against the Mustangs in Dallas.
