Cowboy Basketball lands sharp-shooting Greek forward
May 23, 2025 | Cowboy Basketball
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State head coach Steve Lutz further strengthened the Cowboys' frontcourt with the addition of Greek standout Lefteris Mantzoukas.
Â
The 6-foot-9 power forward will turn 22 years old this summer but has already logged extensive international experience in parts of eight seasons on club teams competing in the Greek Basketball League, including four with 2024 EuroLeague champion Panathinaikos Athens.
Â
Nicknamed "Lefty," Mantzoukas is, in fact, right-handed.
Â
A 40% career three-point shooter, he's converted more than 45% of his attempts across 53 EuroLeague appearances (widely considered the world's second toughest basketball league, behind the NBA).
Â
In addition, Mantzoukas has earned caps with Greece's junior and senior national teams, highlighted by a bronze medal at the 2023 FIBA U20 European Championship.
Â
Mantzoukas spent the majority of the 2024-25 season with Maroussi BC, where he averaged 7.4 points and 5.1 rebounds in GBL play while shooting 42% from distance.
Â
"Lefteris is a proven competitor with championship experience at the highest levels of European basketball," Lutz said. "He has a deep understanding of the game, and his size and elite shooting ability will fit well within our offense. We're excited to welcome him to Stillwater."
Â
Originally from Ioannina, Greece, Mantzoukas joined Promitheas Patras' youth program in the summer of 2015 and made his senior level debut less than three years later at age 14. In May, 2018 (two months shy of his 15th birthday) he became the youngest player ever to start a GBL game, scoring 12 points in 31 minutes of action.
Â
Mantzoukas joined Panathinaikos Athens in December, 2020. Over the next four seasons, he helped the club secure two GBL A1 titles, one Greek Cup and two Greek Super Cups. He also won the league's 2023 Young Player of the Year and Most Improved Player awards.
Â
Mantzoukas' addition boosts the Oklahoma State roster to 13 with returners Robert Jennings II and Andrija Vukovic joined by 11 newcomers.
