Cowboys to face GCU at Phoenix Suns' PHX Arena
May 27, 2025 | Cowboy Basketball
Oklahoma State will play a neutral court game against Grand Canyon at PHX Arena -- home of the NBA's Phoenix Suns – in the 2025 Jerry Colangelo Classic.
The game is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 6 as part of a doubleheader that will also include Arizona State and Oklahoma. Tip-off times and ticket details will be announced later this summer. Fans can sign up for presale information at HOFSeries.com.
"Jerry Colangelo has made a lasting impact on the game at every level, and it's an honor to take part in an event that bears his name," OSU coach Steve Lutz said. "This is a great opportunity for our guys to compete in an NBA arena and challenge themselves against a strong non-conference opponent. We're looking forward to a high-level game in front of a great crowd."
Lutz guided the Cowboys to the NIT quarterfinals in his first year and has continued that momentum into the off-season with one of the nation's 10 most-improved rosters, per On3.com's Transfer Portal Index.
This will be the Cowboys first men's basketball meeting with GCU and second ever appearance at PHX Arena. The building was just over a year old (on Dec. 5, 1993) when eighth-ranked OSU faced No. 19 Arizona a top-25 showdown.
The Lopes have won 75 percent of their games under sixth-year head coach Bryce Drew and represented the WAC in four of the last five NCAA tournaments.
"One of our highlights on the calendar every season is the opportunity to play in downtown Phoenix, and we're excited to return this season," Drew said. "The experience of playing in an NBA venue is incredible. We are excited to play against a program we respect like Oklahoma State and bring our students and fans downtown for the day. Tying it all together and playing in an event with Mr. Colangelo's namesake and involvement adds an extra layer of importance for our program and university. We can't wait for December."
