STILLWATER – Oklahoma State men's and women's cross country started the 2025 year off strong at the Cowboy Preview on the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater, with the Cowboys taking home the team title.
The third-ranked Cowboys competed in the men's 5K and came out with the meet victory over in-state rivals Oklahoma and Tulsa, scoring 29 points overall and placing six athletes in the top 10. Friday's win marks the first for the OSU men at the Cowboy Preview since 2017.
Sophomore Jacob Deacon was the first Cowboy to cross the line in third place with a time of 15:05.1, a 24.6 second improvement from his run in the 2024 Cowboy Preview. Will Conway was not far behind, finishing at fourth with a time of 15:20.5. Ethan Stovall and Ayden Granados took home sixth and seventh, while Tate Barr and Matthew Thomas rounded out the top ten with ninth and 10th-place finishes, respectively.
The Cowgirls also put up a strong showing in the women's 3K, securing five top-10 finishes and propelling the Cowgirls to second place behind Northwestern. True freshman Elyse Wilmes ran unattached and led the Cowgirls with a time of 10:27.5, earning her sixth place in her first collegiate race. Sophomore Victoria Lagat followed in seventh with a time of 10:28.7, with Mandeep Sangha, Lauren Ping and Jinane Mahi all coming in at eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively. Overall, the Cowgirls finished with a team score of 41 points.
Next up on the schedule for the Cowboys and Cowgirls is the 87th annual Cowboy Jamboree on Sept. 26 in Stillwater. The Cowboys are hoping to repeat last year's success after taking first place in the event in 2024, while the Cowgirls look to return to the winner's circle after a second-place showing last year.
