Cowgirl Soccer Falls In Big 12 Opener

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State came up short against 12th-ranked Kansas in Thursday night's Big 12 Conference opener as the Cowgirls dropped a 1-0 match at Neal Patterson Stadium.
The loss snapped the Cowgirls' four-game winning streak against KU dating back to 2021 as OSU fell to 4-4-1 on the season. The Jayhawks improved to 7-0-2 with their fourth-straight victory.
The Cowgirls had to deploy two goalkeepers in the game as, in the 33rd minute, starter Logan Marks was injured on what resulted in a red card foul on KU's Jordan Rowan. Murphy Sheaff entered the game immediately after. Before departing, Marks made saves on both shots on goal from the Jayhawks.
The first half ended scoreless, with Kansas outshooting OSU, 5-1, while the Cowgirls had a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
In the 56th minute, KU's Caroline Castans ended the tie with a right-footed strike from the edge of the box over the leaping save attempt from Sheaff.
That would be the only score of the game as the Cowgirls held the Jayhawks to under three goals for the first time in their last three games.
The Pokes' lone shot on goal came in the 83rd minute off the foot of Laudan Wilson. Wilson struck the ball well, but KU keeper Sophie Dawe didn't have to range far to corral it.
The game ended with Kansas outshooting OSU, 13-5, while both teams recorded six corner kicks.
Up next for the Cowgirls is a Thursday matchup against Arizona State in Tempe set for a 9 p.m. (CDT) kickoff.
