AMES, Iowa – Emma Jensen and Sonora DeFini scored goals for Oklahoma State, and Colin Carmichael reached a coaching milestone as the Cowgirls defeated Iowa State Thursday night at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
With the win, OSU improved to 7-7-4 overall and kept its Big 12 Tournament hopes alive by moving to 3-5-2 in conference play. The Cyclones are now 4-10-4 and 0-8-2 in league play.
The victory also marked OSU's 100th regular season Big 12 win under Carmichael, who has been the Cowgirls' head coach for 22 seasons.
The Cowgirls netted both of their goals in the first 15 minutes of the game. ISU owned a slight 14-13 edge in shots, while OSU held a 9-1 advantage in corner kicks.
OSU got on the scoreboard less than three minutes into the contest. Wilson dribbled through the defense, then delivered a pass from the endline that Jensen flicked in with her left foot. The goal was Jensen's fourth of the season and second in the last three games.
The Cowgirls doubled their lead in the 15th minute. This time it was Raquelle Mitchell creating an opportunity for DeFini as she delivered a cross through the box that DeFini tapped in for her eighth goal of the season and a 2-0 OSU advantage.
ISU tallied seven shots in each half, and Cowgirl goalie Avery Bass finished with five saves in the shutout performance.
OSU concludes the regular season Thursday at Colorado.
