ASTANA, Kazakhstan – Oklahoma State wrestling's former NCAA champion Wyatt Hendrickson won four of five matches at the Senior World Championships to take home his first ever medal at the senior level on Saturday morning.
In just his second Senior World Championships and despite one of the toughest draws in the field, Hendrickson earned tech fall victories in four of his five matches, dominating most opponents en route to the medal. It's a staggering improvement from his 0-1 run at the 2025 World Championships in Zagreb.
He becomes the first senior world medalist from OSU since Daton Fix won silver at the 2021 World Championships in Oslo. Hendrickson completes a successful freestyle run for the Cowboys, with incoming freshman Dreshaun Ross and fellow NCAA champion Landon Robideau earning medals at the U20 World Championships in August.
Hendrickson's journey began on Friday morning with an upset over the No. 3 seed Shamil Sharapov, cruising by the Bahrainian in 3:35, winning via tech fall 11-0. He followed that up with two more tech falls over China's Buheeerdun and Germany's Mohsen Siyar.
His only loss came in the semifinals to former World Champion and Olympic medalist Amir Zare. The Iranian would go on to win the world championship today as well, not allowing a single point to any competitor.
Saturday morning set up a bronze medal match between Hendrickson and India's teenage prodigy, Singh Jaspooran. The match was over as soon as it started, with Hendrickson nabbing a takedown before pulling off four consecutive rolls to take the match in 27 seconds, 10-0, to secure the bronze.
