Nine-run fourth inning propels Cowgirl Softball in run-rule win over Brown

SAN MARCOS, Texas – A grand slam by Amanda Hasler and a complete game shutout from RyLee Crandall powered the Oklahoma State softball team to a 14-0 run-rule victory over Brown in five innings at the River State Classic Friday.
The Pokes improved to 9-4 on the year and have now won six of their last seven games overall. It was the first game of Brown's season.
Hasler's third-inning grand slam took a 1-0 OSU lead and opened it to a 5-0 advantage that put the game out of reach. The senior from Avon, Connecticut, tripled earlier in the game and also had a stolen base in the contest.
Things got out of hand in a nine-run fourth inning that featured a two-run double from Gabby Castillo and a two-run home run from Claire Timm. At one point of the fourth, Brown pitchers walked six consecutive Cowgirls. Of those six straight walks, five came with the bases loaded.
With home runs from Hasler and Timm, the Cowgirls enjoyed their third multi-home run game of the season. Making Friday's performance remarkable, however, was that both home runs were hit directly into a significant wind.
Timm's home run extended her hitting streak to six. She has excelled at the River State Classic, going 6-for-8 at the event with two triples, a home run and seven runs batted in.
Crandall (4-0) logged her first complete game shutout of the season and struck out four with just one walk allowed in five innings of work. Macy Borowski (0-1) took the loss for Brown after surrendering nine earned runs in four innings of work.
The Cowgirls will be back in action at 6:30 p.m. CT tonight when they face Colorado State.
