Cowboys Comeback Attempt Falls Short at Nebraska
February 27, 2026 | Cowboy Tennis
Lincoln, Neb. – The 24th-ranked Oklahoma State men's tennis team dropped its match at No. 52 Nebraska, 4-2, on Friday night at the Sid and Hazel Dillon Tennis Center.
The Cowboys move to 10-3 on the season, while Nebraska improves to 8-2. Despite the loss, Oklahoma State still has 69 total team points this season, the most through 13 matches since 1981.
The Cornhuskers came out the gate with energy and took the doubles point, winning courts two and three, taking a lead they would never squander. Nebraska would go up 3-1 early into singles, taking five of six first sets. The sole Cowboy victory came on court two where Nicolas Kobelt improved to 10-1 on the season, defeating Colson Wells in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.
The match came down to three third sets on courts three, four and five. Starting on court three, Derek Pham stormed back from a dropped first set against Nebraska's Jeri Lassala and claimed his sixth win of the season, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Despite a strong attempt from freshman Charlie Valentine, Nebraska clinched the match on court five, 6-4, 1-6, 6-1. With the match settled, sophomore Ian Bracks' match went unfinished at three games a piece in the third set.
The Cowboys return to Stillwater for a top 10 matchup against No. 9 San Diego at the Greenwood Tennis Center on Tuesday at 11 a.m. CT.
