Downing, Cowgirls shut out San Jose State, 9-0
February 06, 2026 | Cowgirl Softball
PALO ALTO, Calif. – A six-run first inning catapulted the No. 24/20 Oklahoma State softball team to a dominating 9-0, five-inning run-rule win over San Jose State in day two action at the Stanford Invitational played at the Stanford Softball Stadium Friday.
The Cowgirls improved to 1-1 with the win, with the Spartans falling to 0-1.
The game matched a pair of true freshmen starting pitchers making their respective collegiate debuts, with OSU's Preslee Downing getting the best of SJSU right-hander Delaney Faus. Downing stuck out three, issued no walks and allowed only three hits en route to an efficient shutout victory that required only 64 pitches.
The game was never in question, as the Cowgirls scored four runs before the Spartans recorded the first out. OSU led by six after one inning and nine after three.
Speed and baserunning savvy led to eight stolen bases for the Pokes, with five Cowgirls stealing at least one. Eight stolen bases is the third-highest single-game output in program history and the most since OSU stole 11 against Lamar in 2021.
Melina Wilkison went 2-for-3 with a triple, two stolen bases, two runs scored and an RBI. Amanda Hasler added two RBIs.
OSU faces California at 4 p.m. today.
