Cowboys Surge Into Lead At Big 12 Championship

HUTCHINSON, Kan. – Oklahoma State's men's golf team used a strong second round on Monday to stand alone at the top of the leaderboard at the Big 12 Championship after the first day of action at Prairie Dunes Country Club.
After opening with a 279 during the morning round, the Cowboys fired a 13-under 267 during the afternoon to end the day seven shots clear of the field at the par-70, 6,996-yard layout. OSU stands at 14-under 546, while Arizona is second at 553 and Texas Tech is third at 559 at the halfway point of the event.
Head coach Alan Bratton's squad broke the Big 12 Championship single-round record with its second-round tally, besting the mark set by the program in 2019 when the Pokes fired a 12-under 268.
Junior Preston Stout, the event's two-time defending champion opened with a 67 to trail by four entering the second round before firing a 65 to stand two clear of the field at 132.Â
During his morning round, Stout stood at 1-over through 11 holes before reeling off birdies at 13, 14, 15 and 17 to finish at 3-under for the round. The afternoon session saw Stout once again over par at 1-over through six before he birdied three of the next four. After posting a bogey at the 11th, he birdied the 13th and 14th before carding an eagle at the par-5 17th to get to 5-under for the round.
Junior Gaven Lane followed an opening 72 with a 64 during the afternoon to climb into a tie for third place at 136. Lane would birdie Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 5 before ultimately posting a 3-under 32 on his outward nine. He would birdie the 10th before carding his final bogey of the round at the 11th. He would go on to birdie the 13th and 14th before carding his eighth birdie of the round at the 17th.
Junior Eric Lee opened with a 71 before rallying with a 68 during his second round to move into a tie for 13th place at 139.
Junior Ethan Fang posted a pair of 70s to stand at 140 and tied for 17th place, while sophomore Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson signed for scores of 71 and 70 to finish the day at 141 and tied for 22nd place.
The Cowboys will begin their third round tomorrow at 11:05 a.m. and will be grouped with Arizona, Texas Tech and TCU. Live scoring is available at scoreboard.clippd.com.
