Q&A with Cowboy Football offensive lineman Tyler Mercer
April 08, 2026 | Cowboy Football
Cowboy Football redshirt sophomore Tyler Mercer
On his decision to come to OSU:
"When coach [Morris] got this job here I thought there wasn't a better fit than coming back to the coach I was an All-American with."
On head coach Eric Morris:
"Coach Morris, as a person, is an amazing dude, hands-on head coach, eating breakfast, eating dinners with us, so I like that aspect of him. His offense speaks for itself, the yardages, the points per season… It's a dream as an offensive linemen to play for his offense"
On how the offensive line has come together:
"Coach Crill has done a good job coaching us all. It's hard, everybody coming from different programs, coming together as one. It's been good competition all around. Everybody has played ball, everyone knows how to play, so everyone's competing with each other, making each other better."
On offensive line coach Cody Crill:
"Detailed, and I've come to appreciate that. It's every play, every step, every person, so every person's getting coached."
On the offensive line depth:
"This is the most depth I've ever been around. I think we've got over 10 guys who have started at a program before. With that alone, the guys I'm around, they know how to play football, they've had game reps. It's great competition, great depth."
On quarterback Drew Mestemaker:
"I liked him my freshman year. We got along, we were golfing, and hanging out. He started as deep in the 5th string, walk-on quarterback, but then quickly you saw leadership capabilities, leadership qualities from him, and he climbed the depth chart. It doesn't take long for people to recognize this dude could play."
On the offensive expectations:
"I think we can do everything. I think we better run it outside, inside, we'll be able to throw it.You've seen it every year with Coach Morris, his offense is impressive and against any defenses. I think we're gonna put on the show and I'm excited for it."
On offensive lineman Jacob Sexton:
"He's a good friend, first off. He lives by me, so we see each other a lot, and hang out a lot. As good of a football player he is, he's also a good teammate. He's friends with everybody on the team. On the field, he's a very important guy, he's heavy, strong and athletic."
