STILLWATER - Oklahoma State wrestling coach David Taylor announced Thursday the addition of All-American Bennett Berge and NCAA qualifier Lorenzo Norman to the 2026-27 roster. More on each student-athlete:
Â
Lorenzo Norman
A New Jersey native who spent the past three seasons at Stanford, Norman's history shows promise he can make an immediate impact in Stillwater. He wrestled just twice last season, but as a redshirt freshman a year prior earned the No. 2 seed at the ACC Championships and was an NCAA qualifier.
His accolades include ACC Wrestler of the Week (Jan. 1, 2025), NWCA Scholar All-American, All-ACC Academic Team and the 2024 Jack Lees Champion of Champions Award.Â
"Lorenzo (Norman) is a talented kid with a lot of wrestling ahead of him,"Â Taylor said. "He was a national qualifier as a freshman and has shown he can compete with anyone in the country. We are looking forward to seeing what he can do in the orange and black."
As a true freshman he finished 9-5 while taking a redshirt. That set up his 2024-25 season where he 18-1, with his first loss coming to OSU's national champion Dean Hamiti at the Cliff Keen Invitational. Norman has shown he can score bonus points too, claiming 15 out of 21 victories with bonus points during that redshirt freshman season.Â
Norman only wrestled twice for the Cardinal this past season, splitting those matches with the win coming via a first-period pin.
"He (Norman) has the ability and drive to be a champion, and that is what we recruit here,"Â Taylor said. "We want guys who can compete for titles and understand what it means to be a Cowboy. Lorenzo fits that mold, and we cannot wait to get to work."
Â
Bennett Berge
Berge also brings high-level collegiate experience to the Cowboys. The Minnesota native has netted three-straight trips to the NCAA Championships, earning All-American honors in 2023-24 with a fourth-place finish. He also has three-straight NWCA Scholar All-America honors and Academic All-Big 12 honors from 2023-26.Â
"Bennett (Berge) is a proven competitor who has already earned All-America honors and qualified for nationals three straight years,"Â Taylor said. "He knows what it takes to win at this level, and that experience is going to add a lot to our culture. We are excited to have him in Stillwater."
The All-American was one of the most highly touted Minnesota high schoolers ever. Berge claimed five consecutive individual state titles in five different weight classes (138, 160, 170, 182, 195), 241 total victories and finished his senior season at 52-0. At the U20 World Championships, Berge earned a silver medal at the 86-kilogram weight class.
Last season, Berge bounced up to the 197-pound weight class and qualified for NCAAs as a 13 seed. Berge also took home fifth place at the Big 12 Championships in Tulsa. His signature win came with a 2-1 decision over No. 19 Gavin Nelson in his season debut as SDSU upset No. 7 Minnesota.Â
"He (Berge) is the type of guy who fits what we are building here,"Â Taylor said. "He is tough, he has been tested and he wants to be part of something special. That is the standard at Oklahoma State, and we think he is going to thrive in our environment."
