Oklahoma State welcomes Max Stewart to the Cowboy tennis staff. Stewart brings seven years of NCAA Division 1 coaching and playing experience; Stewart joins the Pokes prior to the 2024-25 spring season.
Fresh out of his collegiate career at the University of Oklahoma, Stewart returned to the Sooners as a student assistant for the 2021-22 season.  The OU men’s tennis team posted a 15-11 record with an ITA ranking of 19. The Sooners advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and finished first in the Central Region.
Stewart stepped into a Volunteer Assistant position at the University of Michigan for the 2022-23 season. The Wolverines posted an impressive 27-5 record and reached a season-high ranking of No. 3. Stewart helped Michigan to a Final 4 appearance at ITA National Indoors and an Elite 8 NCAA Championship appearance. The Wolverines ended the year with a program-best, No. 6 finish. Stewart was the primary on-court coach for Big 10 Player of the Year (Ondrej Styler) during his run in and to the NCAA Championships. Along with Styler, Stewart coached four other ranked ITA players and three All-Americans.
Impressed with Stewart's efforts, Michigan brought him on as a Second Assistant for the 2023-24 season. The Wolverines finished the season with a 17-13 record while reaching a high ranking of No. 11. Stewart led seven ranked ITA players as Michigan qualified for the ITA National Indoors and advanced to the second round in the NCAA Championships.
Going back to Stewart's time between the lines, he played at the University of Oklahoma from 2017-21 and was named captain during the 2020-21 season. During his time at OU, Stewart competed in over 100 dual matches. Stewart helped the Sooners to four straight top 30 NCAA team finishes with a team-high ranking of No. 12. Stewart and the Sooners reached the second round of the NCAA team competition or better all four of his years with a Sweet 16 run in 2019.
Before his collegiate career, Stewart was the British No. 1 junior for 14U, 16U and 18U. Stewart held a career-high ITF ranking of 68.
Max is the son of Sharon and Tony Stewart.
