Bryan Pearsall fills the role of recruiting coordinator in his first season on staff at Oklahoma State following a successful decade on the coaching circuit.
Â
Pearsall joins the program having spent the past seven seasons at Penn, where he originally began as an assistant prior to his promotion to associate head coach less than a year into his tenure. An instrumental piece of several top-25 classes, Pearsall saw Penn reach unprecedented levels on the recruiting trail, highlighted by a ninth-ranked overall class in 2019. While at Penn, his wrestlers qualified for 34 appearances at NCAA Championships, earned 39 placements at the EIWA Championships, won a pair of individual conference titles and were named All-Ivy honorees 36 times.
Â
In his final season as a Quaker, Penn finished in a tie for fourth at the EIWA Championships with 90.5 points before sending eight of its 10 starters to the NCAA Championships two weeks later. There, tenth-seeded Nick Incontrera led the charge at 174 pounds, reaching the Round of 16 and coming up just two wins shy of All-American status. Penn concluded the 2024 season with a 6-5 record, cementing its third-straight year with a winning record in dual competition.
Â
Prior to his time at Penn, Pearsall served three seasons on staff at Army under former Cowboy wrestler Kevin Ward. Pearsall volunteered in 2015, but moved into a full-time assistant role for his final two years as he oversaw 13 national qualifiers and 18 EIWA placers. Just as he did at Penn, Pearsall’s work on the recruiting trail helped Army climb the EIWA in both competitive and recruiting success, including a signing class ranked as high as No. 16 in the nation in his final year on staff.
Â
Pearsall also gained valuable experience as a coach at the Scarlet Knight Wrestling Club in 2014. Working directly with Rutgers wrestlers during that time, the Scarlet Knights notched an 11-5 record in dual action, placed third at the EIWA Championships and secured its first All-American since 2002.
Â
Wrestling for Penn State from 2009-13, Pearsall was a teammate of Cowboy head coach David Taylor as he started all four years following a redshirt in his true freshman season. He played a direct role in bringing Penn State its first national title in 60 years in 2011, which was the first of three straight team championships that Pearsall was part of. The Nittany Lions also celebrated Big Ten championships in those three seasons as well.
Â
Pearsall put together a 55-54 record throughout his career, battling back from a rocky freshman campaign to finish above .500 in each of his final three seasons and qualify for the NCAA Championships as a senior. That season, Pearsall posted a personal-best 24 victories and proved to be a big bonus-point threat with eight pins on the year, tied for third-most on the team.
Â
A USA Wrestling Bronze Certified coach, Pearsall previously served as director of the West Point Wrestling Club, coaching athletes at UWW Junior Nationals and the U.S. Open in Las Vegas. He also continued his involvement with PAWF as a coach for the cadet and junior teams competing in Fargo.
