STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State rallied from an early deficit, but Oklahoma won the final match and the first Bedlam match of the season ended in a 16-16 tie in front of more than 6,000 fans in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
The Cowboys had taken a 16-13 lead on a major decision by Reggie Wright over Oklahoma's Jared Frayer in the 149-pound match. The Sooners' David Kjeldgaard was able to hang on against OSU's Shane Roller for a 7-6 decision in the dual's final match to force the tie.
The tie ends Oklahoma State's 69-match winning streak although the Cowboys have not lost in 70 straight matches.
It was an uphill battle for the Cowboys, who didn't pick up a team point through the first three matches of the night. In the end, it was an upset win by Jamill Kelly over number two-ranked Michael Lightner that helped give the Cowboy the rallying momentum.
Oklahoma State trailed by one, 13-12, when Kelly pulled off a 2-1, sudden-victory win over Lightner. Kelly and Lightner battled to a 1-1 tie at the end of regulation and the score was the same after one overtime period.
OSU then won the toss and Kelly chose the down position. He was unable to escape on the first try with both wrestlers hurdling out of bounds. Kelly was successful on his second try at the :49 mark of the second extra period.
The match started at the 165-pound class, where Oklahoma's Robbie Waller scored a late reverse for a 4-3 decision over Ty Wilcox. The Cowboys appeared to be headed for an opening-match win. The match was even at 2-2 with Wilcox owning riding time advantage when Waller scored the reverse with five seconds remaining.
Oklahoma added to its advantage in the 174-pound match, where Byron Tucker recorded a major decision over Tony Gansen.
A sudden-victory win by OU's Tommy Grossmann at 184 pounds increased the advantage to 10-0 after three matches. OSU's Pat Popolizio led 6-4 when Grossman scored a takedown with 10 seconds left in regulation. Grossman got the win with 42 seconds left in the sudden victory period.
Oklahoma State picked up its first points of the dual in the fourth match. In the 197-pound match, Mark Munoz scored a takedown with 1:05 remaining and hung on for a 6-5 win over Orville Palmer.
