Cowgirls Continue Win Streak and Defeat Tulsa 3-0

STILLWATER, Okla. (OSU Athletics ) Â— The Oklahoma State softball team shut out Tulsa 3-0 Tuesday evening at Cowgirl Stadium, extending their win streak to 13 games. Junior Anna Whiddon (9-3) threw her third complete game shutout of the season allowing four hits, striking out nine and walking six.

Mariah Gearhart started the Cowgirls (18-4) offense in the first inning by reaching first base after being hit by a pitch. Katelyn Bright then reached first on an error by the Golden Hurricane second-baseman and Gearhart scored from second. Two outs later, the bases were loaded for senior Jessica Meza who hit the ball through the left side to score Julie Ward from third.

Meza would tack on another run to the scoreboard in the sixth when she led off the inning with a solo home run to left field, her first of the season.

Tulsa's Jackie Lawrence started the game and threw four innings giving up one earned run off three hits while striking out two and walking three. Jordan Kinard came on in relief in the fifth and gave up one run off one hit, struck out four and walked one. Lawrence got the loss and falls to 7-2.

The Cowgirls will be back in action this weekend as they travel to San Diego to play in the San Diego Classic II. They will face Cal-State Northridge and San Diego State on Friday.
