Cowgirls Drop Two in San Diego

In the first game of the day, OSU (18-6) got off to an early lead in the first inning as sophomore Alysia Hamilton reached first base on a walk and scored on a triple to right field by freshman Julie Ward. However CSUN had an answer in the bottom of the first as their lead-off batter Jaclyn Rymer hit a double and scored on a single to left field by Christina Saenz.
The Matadors (15-9) scored two more runs in the bottom of the second as runners who got on with a walk and a hit-by-pitch scored on a single by Alexandria Alvarado.
The Cowgirls responded with two more runs of their own in the top of the third as Ward led the inning off with a hit and was followed with a hit by senior Jessica Meza. Sam Heinlein was hit by a pitch which loaded the bases for senior Heather Kim who hit a single through the middle that scored Ward. Freshman Chelsea Garcia then walked and Meza scored from third.
The score would remain tied at three until the bottom of the seventh when a Matador runner scored from third on a deep fly to right by Jaci Carlson with one out.
Sophomore Sarah Odom started the game for the Cowgirls and threw four innings giving up three runs off six hits, striking out one and walking two. Fellow sophomore Alex Villalobos came on in relief in the fifth and gave up one run off five hits and struck out one; however she receives the loss and falls to 2-1.
In the second game of the day, the Cowgirl and Aztec (15-9) pitchers battled as there was no score until the fifth inning when Stefanie Quichocho bunted her way onto first and scored off a triple by Brittany Knudsen.
Samantha Beasley threw the complete game shutout for the Aztecs and held the Cowgirls to two hits and struck out 10 while giving up one walk. She improves to 7-7. Junior Anna Whiddon threw in the circle for the Cowgirls and gave up one run off six hits while striking out six and walking none. She falls to 9-4.
Oklahoma State will resume action tomorrow and face Quinnipiac at 4 p.m. and co-host San Diego at 6:30 p.m. (CST)
