Cowgirls Shut Out Competition in Day Two of Mizuno Classic

In the first game of the day, the Cowgirls (15-4) scored 10 runs in the first three innings against the Drake Bulldogs (11-8). Gearhart led off the first inning with a home run to left field. Junior Katelyn Bright followed with a walk and Hamilton hit a home run to right-center to make the score 3-0.
Freshmen Chelsea Garcia and Kelsey Anchors started the second inning with consecutive singles and Gearhart walked to load the bases for Hamilton. She single to left field to score two runs and was followed by Bright who singled to centerfield to score two more. With one out and one runner on base, freshman Julie Ward hit a home run over the batter's eye in centerfield that was estimated at over 270 feet.
Sophomores Sarah Odom and Alex Villalobos combined for the shutout. Odom (7-1) started in the circle for the Cowgirls and threw four innings and gave up two hits, walked two and struck two out. Villalobos came on in relief in the fifth inning giving up one hit and striking out one.
In OSU's second game against Northern Colorado Bears, the Cowgirls scored a run in each of the first two innings, three in the fourth and four in the fifth. Hamilton had five RBIs from two singles and a double.
Junior Anna Whiddon threw the complete game shutout for the Cowgirls and improves to 7-3.
OSU will play two games tomorrow in the third day of the Mizuno Classic. They will face Northern Colorado at 11 a.m. and Arkansas at 1 p.m.
